how are stereotypes seen in dealing with children and toys?

I believe that little children both girls and boys are given toys to give gender roles such as girls are given dolls, kitchen sets, toy sweepers and washer and dryers. Boys are given tool sets, toy cars, army guns, walkie talkies, and legos. What do you think each boy toy listed above gives boys mind-sets later in life? like do you think by playing with match box cars could be the start of a mechanic later in life? Does media have a big impact on what children play with??

So, have you seen the ToysRUs catalog? filled with gender-specific toys and role models. You will NEVER see a boy in the catalog pushing a pink stroller, nor a girl playing with HotWheels. My granddaughter tells me all the time, "trucks are for boys". Of course, she loves playing with the trucks at home. She tries to take her 2yr old brothers pink stroller ("It's a GIRLS stroller, grandma") He bought it at a yard sale, and it is his precious stroller. Touch it and die! He loves playing Daddy to his 'bubbie bears'. Now I am positive he will hate this toy when he is older, and deny in high school he ever had a pink stroller! Toys can help, I know my lil guy has a good daddy, as he imitates his dad very compassionate). our lil lady, loves to be the drama queen and designer. We can take what our children explore now, and build on that for a foundation for future learning / career choices.

Anyone that really was/is in the Army?

Could you please tell me what job 25F is? I know apparently they maintain switches and control centers, but I also read that they are phasing that job out. Is that true. What would this job be most related to in the "civilian" workforce? Sorry one more thing if he was deployed what would he do there (officially)...would he be carrying around a big walkie talkie??
This is his job, he is in bct right now.

25F is a Network Switches Operator. here is a direct link to the Army site that describes the job in detail.

http://www.goarmy.com/JobDetail.do?id=68

While deployed and in garrison you would be responsible for monitoring and maintaining the Army's network systems. All the Army's computers are networked together in one way or another so you will be busy dealing with the computer illiterate like myself when our systems aren't working correctly. I know I keep my unit's 25F saved in my cell phone. Sorry, no big walkie talkie.

How do we tally up that the army can't afford to kit our soldiers out with decent equipment .......?

ie body armour, working walkie talkies etc .............

yet they can afford to spend hundreds of thousands of pounds (when you factor in the time and wages spent organising his trip and extra security needed around him, organising media blackouts etc) on sending Harry off to play wargames.

Is this an efficient use of resources?

I actually dont have an issue per se with Harry going to Afghanistan .......... I only have an issue when his involvement has a direct impact on those around him. If you asked a fellow soldier, would you rather have Harry next to you, but we won't be able to afford to give you proper body armour or equipment ......... well I know which choice I would make.

If Harry wants to fight, let him fight, but let him accept all the consequences of this decision. Why do we moan because we aren't able to create artificial conditions around him to appease his desire to play soldiers?

If nobody knew he was there, would it have an impact ? No. To do nothing (in terms of a news reporting ie. blackout) costs nothing, so I'd suggest you point your political sword elsewhere ... like possibly at those that set the appropriate (or not) budgets to cover such things as Soldiers kit.

He isn't "playing" soldiers ... he IS a soldier, big difference.

All this said, it is still incredible that the UK's armed forces cannot be kitted out properly. However, I do NOT see this two subjects as related.

Cloverfield fact... possibly proof for a sequel....?

well, we don't DEFINITELY KNOW what has happened to Lily after getting on the seperate plane.. but we do know that all planes either landed or crashed... BECAUSE:
-if you noticed, on the helicopter scene with Rob, Hud and Beth, after they crash, the camera is on the ground and is very still. you could hear the walk talkies from the army men. one of the men from the walkie talkie says, "All copters down." sooo either Lily is stttttttillll alive or crashed also.

AND!... if you noticed on the bridge scene... Hud is carrying his camera on the bridge and we hear Rob say something to Hud. He says, "are you still filming"? and we know Hud says "yeah, ppl are goin to wanna know how it all went down" .. after he says that, his camera is faced towards a man, not too far from him also filming wat is happening! so cloverfield 2, could actually be taken from POINT B.. someone else's experience!

what do you guys think?

If you dont like cloverfield ur retarded

Why am I hearing these muffled voices?

I hear these muffled voices at all times during the day , most of the voices are the same , it sounds like army men on the walkie talkies. you know the static sound that they make, well that was what I heard the first time and it continues along with other muffled voices. They dont tell me to do anything or have conversations with me, I can't ever make out what they are saying its always unclear. Then at any given time I will see shadows, I know that that can be very common with anybody , so I'm not sure if its connected or not. I see the shadows walking towards me or on the side, their not dark or very visible but I can make them out. I hear the voices at any time even when there are others around me, I will ask the other person "what did you say" and of course they reply that they said nothing.
I dont do any drugs and I dont hallucinate.
I do have OCD BUT hearing voices and seeing things are not symptoms of OCD. I have looked into other illnesses but all I got was Schizophrenia, BUT I do not have any other of the major symptoms of schizophrenia. So I was just wondering if anyone else has had the same thing happen and what it was or what did they do?
Ok, I thought I made it clear that I didnt hallucinate!?!? I know what it is to hallucinate and I'm positive thats not what it is, and I also mentioned that I DO NOT have any of the major symptoms of Schizophrenia!!

Well, this could be the beginning of schizophrenia, because this is a hallucination. Are you bothered by it? Is it making your life difficult? It could also be bipolar disorder, psychotic depression, or schizo-affective disorder (all of which can include hallucinations), or pure psychosis. And just to let you know, this can be the beginning of a full-blown episode of schizophrenia or psychosis, so maybe you should go see a doctor.

FEMA, along with three other major operational agencies under the Department of Homeland Security, rely on shortwave radios for two-way communications in the field. In other words, they use HF radios -- HF standing for "High Frequency," for many of their tactical communications needs. The military and many relief organizations worldwide also use HF radios extensively. Not all HF radios are the same, of course. Some are multiband, some are monoband. Some are encrypted communications, some have restricted frequencies. As David Kirkpatick writes in his Fortune magazine article about Katrina, "When rescue workers' did have working equipment, like walkie-talkies, they often couldn't connect with others on different communication systems." Every agency has its own logistical and tactical needs, and thus its own communication equipment and frequency allocation. To make communication matters worse, FEMA required victims of Hurricane Katrina to only use Microsoft IE in order to sign up for relief services. That was a shameful decision. But it gives us a peek into the FEMA, closed standards thinking. amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fsearch%3Frh%3Di%253Aelectronics%252Ck%253ATwo%2BWay%2BWalkie%2BTalkie%26keywords%3DTwo%2BWay%2BWalkie%2BTalkie%26ie%3DUTF8%26qid%3D1265111741&tag=p1a2b-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">...
