I would like to buy some higher range (at least 12 miles) radios. I need them to be able to charge the batteries without actually having to put the two-way on the charger so I can buy some extra batteries to have charging. That way when the batteries get low I can just swap them out. Any ideas?

Here is one I found at Walmart "Cobra 12 Mile GMRS Radio" --- see the link below. They also have other ones and CBs.

note that most of the cracks are on the bottom of the battery near the charger prongs
it is a fire department radio so i cant just duke tape it.

They sell this stuff at the grocery store call all purpose household contact adhesive and sealant. We always called it Goop. Smear some of it on the cracks, work it in with your fingers, and let it dry overnight. Problem solved.

have absolutely no experience with elec. i am re-doing my garage and would like to add a 15 amp dust collector(and three blast gates), a 15 amp miter saw,air compressor a shop light or two,radio,battery chargers,band saw,drill press, belt sander.... i would also like to add 1 or 2 220v outlets for future use(so about 15 outlets).as of now i only have two accesable outlets and a 25 + year old breaker that is very poorly marked and i believe full . i also believe that i need to have one of the rooms in my house moved to a seperate breaker because when i turn on to many electronics at once it flips the breaker off and it is just when there are a few household items running like a hairdryer or a tv other than not knowing about elec. or how many things i can hook up and whatnot i was basically just wondering if you could give me a quick run down on whether im on teh right path thinking i need an additional subpanel befor i call an electrician could you please give me a rough estimate of what im looking at in cost and time. thank you for all your help

The power output -or power consumption is measured in wats and current or flow of electric in amps

P(power in wats) = i(amps) x Volts
I = P over V
V= P over I

In UK I would put that much power on a 32 amp breaker and RCD protcted - cable from consumer unit to garage I would use 4 or 5mm twin and earth or 2.5 mm ringed

Probably better and much cheaper will be to install a garage consumer unit that will have a 40A 30mA incomer 1x6A MCB and one 16A or 32A MCB costing to supply just £32
Uk the distributers fuse will be 50A or 100A for most properties- I had a well equiped joinery workshop in my basement for 5 years- 2 x wood turning lathes, 1x piller drill 1x serfice-thickness plainer-1x table saw -on a 32 amp breaker 2.5 mm ringed with no problems at all! electrics wher insalled by my Grand father who was a forman factory electrical fitter 32 amps at 230 volts is a lot of power..

Becarefull with th amp rating on the breaker if its too high for the cable you could burn out the cable
rule of thumb I use is for UK
1-1.5 mm =6amp
2.5 = 16 amp
2.5 ringed 32 amp
4 mm - 5mm 32 amp.........
No matter if your earthing system is TT, TN or TNCS( wher the falt current is fed back direct to the neutrtal through the PME- the safest and quickest earthing system)

Price will depend??- on the distance between the garage and consumer unit?? - what cable you have allready installed??- what falts need to corrected??- update to bring the work to code....!

I would estimate at least 500 pound labour + aprox 150 to 200 in parts to do it to do the job correctly and test it to code!

In a mobil radio world, products by ASTRON are considered one of the best work horse power supplies.

You can buy one from small (5Amp) or so, to very large. (75Amp)
