an example would be the secret agent type walkie talkie handsfree head sets. would it be possible tweak it enough to use it on a mobile phone?
Well if they are on the same frequency im sure it would work. Or just use bluetooth if you can
People may say that walkie talkie#39;s have lost their appeal since we were children, but TechieTrends is managing to release cool gadgets like ...
A few friends and I go dirtbike riding every weekend and we quite often get split up and have to waste riding time with trying to find each other. I was just wonder if that have walkie talkies out that aren't to expensive but that has a headset and maybe even hands free so we don't have to stop to communicate. The hands free don't have to be a priority just headset. All we would need would be 5 - 10 miles.
Many radio sets include headsets with a voice operation function.

Not sure what category this question should be in, but here goes:
We were thinking of using 2 way radios (motorola talkabouts) for a cross-country road trip with 2 vehicles. I know that most states have hands free laws that cover cell phones, but what about walkie-talkies? I know the whole point of the laws is to minimize driving distractions, but there will be times during the trip where communication between the two drivers will be necessary. Anyone know if the walkie talkies are legal to use while driving?
In California, 2-way radios are allowed only if necessary for work and provided by the employer (for example, taxi drivers, ambulances, etc.)
Just get a bluetooth. That will be legal in every state.

My friends and I are gonna be going on a trip, there will be 2 of us on motorcycles and the rest in a truck, we wanna try and find a communication device that we can use in our helmets that we don't need to press a button to talk, we can just talk whenever, but something that doesn't attach to the helmet, we want it to be underneath if possible... and we need it so they people or at least one of the guys in the truck can have one too... does anyone know of anything thats out there, and preferably not overly expensive, we aren't made of money! Thanks guys!
Lots of FSR and GSMR radios have "hands free" modes, or "push to talk" capability in a head set, so most any of them will work for that. The Kenwood systems are used by some of the major manufacturers, so you can get one of the those for your friends in the vehicle and they would be on the same frequency as you.
The trick isn't really in the radio, though, it's in the headset. You can't really hear well through most of them, unless you have a bike that has a full fairing or a very large windsheild.
The Chatterbox systems are designed for bikes, but I don't really like the earpieces. They have pretty poor sound quality, IMHO. They don't have to attach to your helmet, you can buy an extension wire and carry them in your pocket or a tankbag.
The Autocomm systems are trick, but too darned expensive. - $700 or so per bike.
In short, I haven't found an earpiece yet that I like for this, so these days, I still stick to handsignals.....
I know...the laughing at a joke on Radio 2, or a joke on a hands-free walkie-talkie has already done the rounds...but how long will it be before the sweeties in the big house 194 miles south will put through a law to criminalise drivers who sneeze or cough?
Gesundheit!
Come come, Brad...the 14 year olds behind the wheel in my part of the world usually spew up in the back!
In the USA in 1918 a law WAS passed for anyone sneezing without using protection (ie, a handkerchief) and any transgressors were either jailed for a year or fined heavily ...
2009AD : Shaking hands should be banned! I suggest replacement with the Vulcan hand-greeting ... Live Long and Prosper! (Or go the Klingon route,if they've just sneezed in your face) http://www.flickr.com/photos/ursulaandol ive/2267550872/
