Two Way Radios Answers
I know I'm not crazy, I have a couple of friends who remember them too. They were these "walkie talkies" or "kids cell phones" that were advertised maybe two years ago that worked like a two way radio in the since that you could only talk to the person who had the other phone-type thing that came in packages of two. You didn't need minutes and they could reach across town if need be, the same reception as a cell phone, but works as a two way radio. I need help finding these! And please keep in mind I'm not thinking of the walkie talkie phones brought out recently by bigger cell phone companies, those have pricey plans. I remember the commercial said that you'd never have to buy a plan or never have to buy minutes, that it was a one time cost when you bought the things so kids could talk to the friend that you gave the other phone too. Please, if you have any information, leave it here. Thank you for your time!

My two way radio... sorry for the background noise. Kids were watching cartoons. Please rate.
Range of 9 miles. One kid leaves a certain point at 1:00 pm,walking due north at a rate of 4mi/hr. The other leaves the same point at 1:05pm, traveling due south at 6mi/hr. When will they be unable to comunicate with each other
They will no longer be able to talk to each other at 1:57. At that time they will be 9.066667 miles apart. I figured it out using a spreadsheet. I figured out that a rate of 4 mph (4/60) is 0.066667 mile per minute. I figured out that a rate of 6mph (6/60) is 0.1 miles per pinute. I then set up the spreadsheet so that there were 5 minutes at 0.06667 mpm, and then had each minute equal 0.166667 mpm (0.1 + 0.066667). I had the spreadsheet add it up, and at 1:56 the distance is 8.9, at 1:57 the distance is 9.066667.

Well Christmas is coming up and I already know what to buy my family members. Now I would like to buy myself a gift. Since I was a kid I was fascinated on listening to cops and other private radio broadcasters by simply putting different two way radios with different frequencies together. Then I found out a Radio scanner can receive a whole lot more but, my father couldn't afford one at the time. I want a hand-held since it will be my first one one to learn. So please let me know from experience what radio scanner with triple trunking and a frequency range as much as possible for a hand held I'm thinking the PRO 164 But am not sure. Thanks
I know i will need trunking im in Houston, tx but i may be wrong. I have only used, frs, gmrs, cb, and shortwave so i have little experience on scanners. I would love to hear police anything else! I will check out the models you guys have given me.

A while back I remember some company coming out with a phone for kids that doesn't require pay as you go minutes, or minutes at all. Basically, you pay a one time fee, get two phones, and give one phone to your friend, keep the other phone, and those two phones could only talk to each other, but it was free and it could reach across town, or wherever you needed the reception to be. Well, no one seems to know the name of these phone/two way radio thingers, so I've been doing some reading on VoIP, and I ran across Skype, a phone service that sounded remarkably like the phones I've been searchig for. The only problem is that it's not a PHONE but instead a mic on your computer and speakers and a headset, but I'm beginning to think that the phones I've been looking for uses this technology, because how else can you get basically free cell phone usage. So, here's my question to you: Do you know the name of these elusive kids phones, or if not, do you know a product that is similar?

I've loaded my mp3 player with around 600 songs and we have a connector so we can play it over the radio. I have two little kids (2 & 3) and I'm bringing a bunch of crayola mess free stuff, plus hundreds of stickers to keep them busy (oh and the portable DVD player but they don't really watch a lot of movies at home so I don't know if it will be helpful or not). Does anyone have any other ideas what I can bring to help entertain my husband and I? The thing is I don't want to talk to him the whole way because all he wants to talk about is: What's the meaning of life?; Should I go back to school? or the topics of Boat building and whittling. While I love my husband, I've had to hear all this stuff discussed nonstop for the past four years whenever we go on trips or even at home and I don't think I can take listening to it for a solid week in the car!
Does anyone have any suggestions on what we can do (keep in mind one of us will be driving) that would be fun for me (I think he enjoys those conversations I listed above, but I'm to a place where I do not want to talk about them anymore)???
KEEP THEM BUSY!! no one wants a whiny kid in the back seat... yet alone 2! So play lots of games! I-Spy with my little eye, would you rather?, etc... but if the stress and the whining gets to be too much, invest in a pair of headphones that are noise reducing. they are a lifesaver! as for your husband.... subject change as much as u can. =] good luck!
