Two Way Radios Answers
Hello, I want to know whether I can communicate with a person having a two way radio from uniden or some other make with my motorola radio and what is the maximum number of radios which can be connected together(Can I connect more than 5 radios and communicate together )
Thanks
Yes, as long as they are set to the same frequency. On cheaper store-bought radios, you usually just set them to the same channel. If you have professional radios, you usually will have to have them programmed by a service company. (or someone with the right software)
You can use as many as you want, the name two-way implies that you can only have one radio transmitting at at a time, meaning you have to take turns talking, instead of all at once like on the phone.

I'm looking for a good "walkie talkie" radio to take skiing with me to communicate in the back-country. Any ideas? Range and battery life are the more important issues for me I think.
Any help would be appreciated!
If you are referring to VHF radios, not FRPs, I have used both for on-hill coaching, and have found the Midland to have better battery life. Range is determined more by terrain, Midland offers an extended antenna (about 28" long) which will increase your range dramatically. The only drawback to Midland, I find it hard to push the Mic button with gloves on.

Not sure what category this question should be in, but here goes:
We were thinking of using 2 way radios (motorola talkabouts) for a cross-country road trip with 2 vehicles. I know that most states have hands free laws that cover cell phones, but what about walkie-talkies? I know the whole point of the laws is to minimize driving distractions, but there will be times during the trip where communication between the two drivers will be necessary. Anyone know if the walkie talkies are legal to use while driving?
In California, 2-way radios are allowed only if necessary for work and provided by the employer (for example, taxi drivers, ambulances, etc.)
Just get a bluetooth. That will be legal in every state.
Okay, I have a Motorola TalkAbout 250 Two way radio, and I lost the user manual for it. The batteries are running out, and for some reason, I cannot get the battery cover off. Is there any specific thing I have to do to get this cover off? Even better, how do I remove a Motorola TalkAbout 250 Two way radio battery cover?
i think those have internal batteries that you cannot get to them except tacking the radio apart,i had a set long time ago and i never saw the batteries they are rechargeable that is why there is no door but i could be wrong.
