Professional Walkie Talkie

What is the best brand of 2 way radio/walkie talkies for professional use? They need to have a strong enough signal to communicate via a basment/parking garage storage area to a ground floor business.

If you are only going up one level, you shouldn't have much trouble with any commercial radio. Bear in mind, a commercial radio license and frequency coordination are required before you get on the air.

They are not professional types of walkie talkies. Unable to remove batteries as the walkie talkie radios are rechargeable.

I would not put them in your checked bag. Might not be there at the destination. Those are just another electronic device - like a phone, or a laptop, or ... whatever.

Can you somehow tape over the on/off switch, or protect it so it cannot turn on?

I have a set of "Challenge activate DL500+" 2-way, 8 channel (each with 38 codes?) radios which I bought here in the UK from Argos a year or 2 ago. Being a we're all off to a German festival in a few weeks, and not taking our phones, I'd like to take these radios to stay in touch. Are they legal to use in Germany? Sadly the instruction doesn't mention the specific frequencies they use but I would like to think that being domestic devices they won't interfere with any sort of commercial or professional channels?
OK, I just found the following spec on them which might help people answer: 8 Channels. 38 CTCSS subcodes. Operation frequency range 446.00625 - 44609375. Transmission power: 0.5W. Bandwidth 12.5Khz. Range up to 3 km (open field). Powersave. 10 Call tones. Nuisance delete. Includes 4 x AAA rechargeable batteries.

if they are PMR-446, then they are legal. Otherwise, no.
