I am trying to find a cheap but good quality walkie talkie, I would also want it to be able to re-charge. No re-placing batteries.
Most retail stores such a Target or Walmart sell FRS.GMRS Walkie-Talkies. You can also find them on-line at numerous retailers. Our best selling FRS/GMRS walkie-talkies are the Midland and Motorola brands. Midland just released the GXT1000-VP4.
Keep in mind, most GMRS walkie-talkies manufacturers claim that the radios will work past 10 miles, but in reality, due to line-of-sight considerations, these walkie-talkies will communicate about 1 mile.

It means the RF frequency is wrong. If there is a band switch, try changing bands; otherwise you may have to take it to someone who can put it on the right frequency.

it looks good. But walkie talkies only talk for a certain distance so if your friend is like at the movies when your at home it won't work, maybe get a cell phone

Walkie talkies are unique in that the half-duplex channel they operate on will only allow one radio to transmit at any time, though there are no limits to the amount that can listen. Rather than have an earpiece similar to a telephone, a walkie talkie has a built in speaker so the unit does not have to be held to the ear. Walkie talkies can communicate between both fixed radio stations and to other mobile handheld units. Walkie talkies are usually the shape of a large portable telephone, and have a fixed antenna at the top.
Origins of the Walkie Talkie The fist radio audio transmiter and receiver that was coined the ‘walkie talkie’ was created by Motorola. Those involved developed the Motorola SCR-300 using frequency modulation. The very first walkie talkie was actually worn on the back dueto its size. Not long afterward, during World War 2, Motorola produced the ‘Handie Talkie’ which rather confusingly is what we would now recognise as a ‘Walkie Talkie’. It had massively reduced performance, but was the first completely self contained handheld device.
