Spy Walkie Talkie

I want to use them at a ski mountain in PA not a big one. But would 2 miles of range be enough, or should i get a regular walkie talkie?

The 2 miles of range is based upon flat landscape with very few obstructions, not even much in the way of trees or buildings. On a mountain, even a small one, you'll be lucky to see 1/2 a mile at best. Hand held units may give you slightly better range, but not much. The real advantage is that they use larger batteries, meaning you won't have to replace them as often.

Is it safe to use walkie-talkies to talk with a friend of yours when they're far away, and you either have no cell phone or service? I have a pair of Uniden Walkie-Talkies, and I use them to talk with a friend of mine. I think it's like a 2 or 5 mile range, and I heard truckers out on I-95 asking direction of each other. I'm worried that someone may hear or spy on me. My apartment complex uses walkies also. So, what do you think? IF this is in the wrong category, it's cause i'll get more results here.

Never reveal personal information over the radio. You never know who is listening.

If you are concerned, TriSquare makes a new type of radio that is about as secure as you can get... the TSX-300 has 10 billion channels via a frequency hopping spread spectrum system. Scanners can't her them and with the channel numbers you are pretty much assured of security.
