Two Way Radios Answers
Hi, Im just thinking about buying two way radios for work, all the business ones seem to be around 100 £, I need them licence free but still of business quality, so i thought about mobile phones with two way radios built into them? anybody know aything ? x
The technology is called Push To Talk (PTT) but no-one in the UK supports it. Orange did offer a PTT-style service (called Talk Now) for a monthly subscription fee a while back on selected handsets but this has now been stopped.
I think the problem is that PTT competes with the network's ability to charge for normal calls and they've all been unable to work out how to charge for PTT usage.

I have looked into taking my mobile phone but the call charges will be really high. If I do take a two way radio does anyone know if the reception will be any good around the theme parks?
You need to check to see if the two-way radios you have are on legal frequencies/power range in the US. There's a possibility that your radios are on frequencies that are not permitted in the US, and will be confiscated at customs. (It's also possible that your radios operate at a power level that's illegal in the US.) Check with the US embassy or consulate to ask about whether your two-way radios would be legal in the US.
Your best bet may be to buy a set of two-way radios once you get to the US -- a decent pair will cost around $25 to start. Another alternative is to buy a "disposable" cell phone and a supply of minutes, such as a TracFone. I think you can get a TracFone and 240 minutes for less than $40.
Edit: I just checked Walmart and it has a TracFone for $10 and a deal that works out to 240 minutes for $29.88.
Have a good trip!

Car drivers are not allowed to speak on thier HAND HELD mobile phones while driving in Britain, although many still do,saw one just the other day.
It begs this question though, I used to be a London Dispatch rider here in london before the advent of the mobile phone.
We use two way radios to communicate with HQ and would use them 'on the hoof' so to speak....that is while riding.
Riders compete for work and if you are slow to answer a call going out to dozens of people you won't be the one getting the job....great pressure to do something that is (or is it?) against the law now.
Does the mobile phone law here apply to two way radios?
I know a Magistrate would prosecute for it but only because they always say you are 'guilty' anyway unless UTTERLY forced to do otherwise.
2-way radios are not included, but someone who gets distracted while using one could be prosecuted under other, already existing laws.
This setup is for a mobile radio with 4 6x9 and a Kenwood 35x4 Car CD player. It ran last year for about 20 hours with the 2 batteries and no amp. I just want to see if anyone can give me a guess as to how long it will last with the 500W amp.
I would guess 20 to 30 minutes, but it really depends on many factors like volume ect....
Maybe ask someone at Batteries Plus ( http://www.batteriesplus.com ), they might be able to come up with a better estimation.
