Two Way Radios Answers

Can a buy a portable two-way radio and have it programmed to police frequencies, so that I can contact police?

directly in case of an emergency....I know this can be done, can I do it....why or why not?

You can only purchase scanners of police frequencies. Retail outlets that sell transmitters, don't sell to individuals, unless they're a part of the police agency...sorry.... emergency and police traffic only.

Audiovox Two Way Radios?

Does AudioVox GMRS two way radios, slim line design come in more then seven miles? I need 18 mile...

This is what I already know ...

Audiovox offers the slimmest line of GMRS two way radios on the market today. Our slim line design handheld radios offer an "ultra compact" feel as well as featuring an FM radio, high intensity LED flashlight, ear mic, carrying case and comes in single or dual packs.

Thanks...

Be advise that these radios, regardless of how many miles it says it can go up to, NEVER live up to it's advertised promise. Even when used on the high power channels, which requires an FCC license before operating, is good for no more than a few city blocks in the city. In open terrain, it may get the maximum distance.

What should i use to mount my CB Radio instead of the screws it comes with, my two thoughts are...

That 3m sticky stuff for hanging pictures. or Velcro, i don't want to have to put screws in, in case i take it out someday, i want something that wont really show after i take it off. but i'm thinking velcro might leave sticky stuff behind like duct tape does. have any ideas let me know which is best, or if you have any other good ideas. i think it will be mounted to plastic

3m tape should work, But if its on there for a wile you will have to put some elbow grease into to remove the old tape from your car when you remove it

What is a good short story to be made into a radio-play?

I'm doing this project for English class. I am supposed to record a radio-play based on a short story. I should best be a classic story (maybe Poe) so there are no copyright issues in case I want to release it online.
Also it should at least feature two characters and provide enough content for 15-30 minutes.

Any recommendations?

The Cask of Amontillado.

But it's about two men, Montresor and Fortunato. Apparently Fortunato has insulted and done some things that's made Montresor pretty angry, though Montresor doesn't say specificly what. It's carnival season. Montresor says to Fortunato that he has some Amontillado in his cellar. So Montresor takes Fortunato into Montresor's catacombs and then leads Fortunato to the end. Fortunato is chained up and Montresor makes a wall. Fortunato dies in there.

I'm unsure where you can find it online though. I'm sorry I couldn't find it and that it's such a depressing story.

What are your thoughts on Radio station awards Corvette to illegal immigrant ?

A Chicago radio station accused of stiffing four listeners out of contest prizes has settled claims with two of them, months after the promises of prizes were made.

But the remaining two are continuing with lawsuits against WLEY-FM (107.9), "La Ley," saying it has failed to live up to its promises.

One listener who was denied the prize of a Corvette accused a lawyer for the station's parent company of threatening to report her illegal immigration status to federal officials.

But now, according to the station and attorneys for Maribel Nava Alvarez, the station has delivered to her family a car once owned by Mexican-American singer Juan Rivera.

And three winners of an "American Idol"-style singing contest also sued the station, accusing it of failing to deliver promised prizes, including a recording contract and studio time.

The first-place winner, Ernesto Hurtado, accepted a settlement. The other two contestants say it was a large cash payment, but they held out, in part because the settlement included a gag order, preventing anyone from talking about it.

"A lot of things about it just didn't seem right," said second-place winner Luis Arreola.

Third-place winner Yolanda Chaidez said she and Arreola are now looking for new lawyers, as "I just feel like we've been lied to."

Isabel Bucaram-Montana, spokeswoman for Spanish Broadcasting System, which owns the station, said they "were surprised and regretted" that Chaidez and Arreola "repudiated the settlement with us" and will now defend their case.

First: these jass ackes do NOT represent any part of Latin America.

Second: Their demands (based on a notion of entitlement) will never be satisfactorily met till all law-abiding citizens lay dead with spears through their gullets, family photos resting on their still-agog faces and all semblances of order dismantled in favor of jungle-law.
