My radio makes a calling noise when i press the ptt button, how can i stop this ?? the range stated is 5 kilometres, which it never reaches, should i invest in a radio with a longer range to effectifly achieve 5 kilometres, for example one with 8 kilometres ?? finally, does any body have any advise on using these ?? thanks, alex
If there's nothing in the instruction manual about turning off the calling tone, it's probably not "turn-offable". As for the range, all pmr sets are limited by law to 0.5 watt. The range quoted is maximum and actual range is limited by terrain, buildings etc. Admittedly, some sets are more sensitive than others, but you're not going to get much more range than you are getting now on any pmr set. Actually, if you were on a hilltop and talking to someone on another hilltop you could probably get a range exceeding 8 km with your setup. As I said, it's all down to terrain.

I have a Scientific Oregon radio which was purchased from argos. When i press the PTT button on the radio, somtimes they make a ringing sound, like a calling feature. I dont know why this somtimes happens, i think when you press the button twice, the radio sends out a calling tone, but it is very annoying and happens frequently
Why does it do this and how do i stop it ?? thankyou

Hi, I have a Motorola GP68 two way radio (UHF 430-470) and everything works fine except I cannot transmit. I can hear other radios (talkabouts and other two ways) just fine, but I cannot talk back to them. Whenever I press the PTT button, I get a series of beeps. One low beep and four higher ones (ba dee dee dee dee)
Any help figuring this out would be appreciated.
Thanks,
-Mike

sounds like you need to take it back to the MSO and have the TX channels reprogrammed. The beeping usually indicates an out of band/out of spec error.

I once had a motorola compatable surveillance ear piece that was a two wire. It had a replaceable speaker that you could switch out where the coil ear piece attached. It also had one wire coming out of the plug part that ran to a belt clip with a ptt button before it slplit into the two wires. In other words it had a BELT clip PTT button as well as the one that was one the microphone clip that ran (at least how i wore it) to the chest.
I have since lost track of it after 4 years and I really really want to get another one, but cannot find anything even close to it online. I DO NOT want one of the wrist or finger 3 wires, they are uncomfortable and difficult to use, (at least for me). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
ok I understand the interface and everything else. I am actually looking to find out the name/model number of a specific ear piece.
It has 2 wires coming out of the plug, both of them go to a belt clip that contains only a ptt button. From there two wires exit and one goes to the ear loop, with a removable/exchangable speaker. The other goes to the lapel mic which contains another ptt button.
I dont know wht i want to suggest to u..
