two radio, scanner?

I am thinking about buying the following Oregon scientific two way radio,304 channel combinations,5km range.
Is this a good choice? Also could it be used as a scanner to listen to other two way radio traffic?

If this radio is an FRS radio, you can find a better deal. Check your local dollar store.
And yes, some FRS radios have a scan function.

radios/two-way radios/scanners?

my company uses icom two-way radios for communication. i want to buy a handheld radio that can be programmed to the same frequency that is used with the company and also be able to pickup aircraft frequencies. not sure where to even start....help! for reference our company ratdios are icom IC-F11S units. thanks

you can buy Icom IC-F11S transceivers from many sources. I would suggest buying new, check out www.gigaparts.com or www.hamradio.com

You can buy a scanner to listen to your company communications that also have airband channels.

You cannot have a radio that transmits on your company channels AND listens to airband channels.

This is illegal, and could result in a $10,000 fine PER DAY for using non-certified equipment.

I am looking to buy the best hand-held radio scanner with as many frequencies as possible.?

Well Christmas is coming up and I already know what to buy my family members. Now I would like to buy myself a gift. Since I was a kid I was fascinated on listening to cops and other private radio broadcasters by simply putting different two way radios with different frequencies together. Then I found out a Radio scanner can receive a whole lot more but, my father couldn't afford one at the time. I want a hand-held since it will be my first one one to learn. So please let me know from experience what radio scanner with triple trunking and a frequency range as much as possible for a hand held I'm thinking the PRO 164 But am not sure. Thanks
I know i will need trunking im in Houston, tx but i may be wrong. I have only used, frs, gmrs, cb, and shortwave so i have little experience on scanners. I would love to hear police anything else! I will check out the models you guys have given me.

any one know about two way radios?

when i hear cops over the scanner what is that little tone sound you hear when they key up its not the reperater becase i hear it on siplex radios to its common with motorola i thinck any one can help ?

When you hear the tones, it is the individual radio sending it's own, unique identification and/or call letters.

  • GRE PSR-300 Scanner Signal Strength Meter | Online Radio and TV ...

One of the features I really like with the new GRE PSR-300 scanner that I’ve been testing is the signal strength meter. On the display there is a big S when your receiving a transmission followed by 0-5 bars to indicate signal strength. Why is this such a good thing. Well for starters it makes comparing antennas easier. Frequencies that you’re used to seeing one or two bars on you will be able to compare a second antenna and see if you get 2 or 3 bars or the same 1 or 2 bars of signal strength. I’ve already used this to compare two rubber ducky style stock antennas and concluded they were about the same. Subjective listening comparison is just not quite the same. maybe there’s more static but a louder signal on one or the other. It can be very subjective. Of course, 5 bars isn’t a perfectly well tuned and calibrated way to measure, there can still be subtle differences that aren’t picked up on a 5 bar scale. There is another VERY useful reason that I’m glad this is a feature though.
