Walkie Talkie?

What is the mono button on a walkie talkie?

You are probably misreading the label on the button. It should say mon and for monitor. It opens the coded squelch and possibly the squelch itself so you can hear any signal, not just the ones with your squelch code on them.

walkie-talkie?

A buddy and me ride bikes around the city, a lot. I was interested in us having a easy way of contacting each other. Because in traffic sometimes you just can't hear each other. I would like a walkie-talkie that you place in your ear, and also you can either talk threw a mic, or have something on your hand you talk into. And possibly something that you can squeeze to activate the mic. Sorta like the FBI uses or something. Anyway can anyone link me to some good products, that are not over say 100 dollars. Thanks in advance!
Thanks James!

Anyone know of a site that supplys these?

Most FRS/GMRS radios have the capability to use external headsets. Radioshack sells radios and headsets both. Most other places like Wal-Mart and Best Buy carry radios, but may or may not carry headsets.

If you use any GMRS frequencies, an $85 license is required, so allow for this when purchasing your radios.

How to improve a cheap walkie talkie?

I received a very cheap walkie talkie from a neighbor for christmas and want to use it for airsoft warring. How do I improve the range and get it to work on the same channel as a better motorola walkie talkie with 24 channels.
How would you improve a cheap walkie talkie u would get just hanging on side of shelf in toy isle of wallmart. That type of walkie talkie.

There's no practical way to improve this style of walkie-talkie. You would have to rebuild it from the start. If you need better range it looks like the only option is to buy a better units.

Have you ever evesdropped on someone using a walkie talkie?

When I was a kid, my brother and I would play with walkie talkies. Every once in a while we would hear the conversations of people on their phones, but we would lose the signal pretty quickly. Have you ever heard anything interesting through a walkie talkie?

No, but I scared the heck out of some women on cordless phones one time.

We used to live in an apartment where you had to go outside to get down to the basement to get to our laundry room. My husband had some walkie talkies, and one day as I was gathering laundry, I accidentally turned one on. The signal interfered with another nearby signal where two women friends were both on cordless phones. I listened to them for a bit, and it was just normal stuff, but I decided to see if they could hear me, too, so I said in a really weird voice, "Is there someone there?" They both immediately heard me, but one of them was physically closer to me than the other, because she heard me clearly, while the other didn't hear everything--she had some static. Just for fun I pretended to be a lost spirit and said a bunch of spooky scary stuff to them. I told the one who could hear me really clearly that she was in my house (we lived in a historic neighborhood full of victorian houses, most over 100 years old), and that I didn't understand what she was doing standing in my kitchen (she had told her friend she was cleaning out her cupboards while they talked, so I knew what room she was in in her house). I spent about 20 minutes standing in the laundry room laughing my butt off and periodically saying weird scary stuff to them. They were both really freaked out, and the one who thought I was in her house was really upset. I remember she asked me what the date was and I told her I didn't know the date, but that it was 1889. That really got her going.

Looking back, it was a mean prank, but I sure thought it was funny that day. At least it made doing laundry into an interesting chore for a change.
